A record shot of a pair of white-tailed eagles hovering above Middlebere Heath in Dorset. Something made me look upwards, and initially I thought 'oh, a pair of buzzards' but then it quickly became clear that these were the famous local 'flying barn doors'. I suspect that I am probably the first person to misidentify an eagle for a buzzard, rather than the well-known error of tourists in Scotland who see a buzzard and assume it's an eagle. Sadly I only had a 300mm with me, rather than the 600. But they still looked big, even high up in the sky. They even locked talons a few minutes later, but by this time they were even higher in the sky...
Just back from a great week of wildlife watching in Britain's most biodiverse tetrad, specifically Purbeck, Dorset. Plenty of action in near-constant sunshine although the high temperatures made the reptiles harder to see than normal. Among the highlights was 5 minutes surorunded by various Dartford Warblers, including this one which left a small gift as it flitted to a new gorse perch...
A reference to Father Ted, the episode where they 'holiday' in a caravan. A very close up study of a very friendly robin at Durlston Country Park, Dorset. At the closest focus for 600mm with the 180-600mm, around 2.4m away, it almost seems to perform like a macro lens with tiny feather details looking pretty sharp to me : )
