Old Galveston Square

To finish off our day, we strolled down the streets of the Historic Galveston Downtown. This is the Old Galveston Square, located on Avenue B of Strand Seaport. We just enjoyed doing a little window shopping and picking up a few little trinkets. Such fun! Hope you all enjoy!

A streetlight is fitted with two kinds of fixture, utilitarian and ornamental. Two horizontal rods were intended to support a marketing banner. Were such a banner in place, it might read something like "Shop, dine, live, play: Downtown Asheville."

The laziest cliché in U.S. urban design for thirty damn years, "a sidewalk is a winding river."

Here was Battle Creek's implementation of the concept. I noticed there didn't seem to be very many people accepting the invitation to trudge from noplace to noplace on "winding rivers" of blood-colored pavers. Even the whimsically-designed streetlights didn't seem to be drawing crowds.
