All Chewed Up

The challenge was on. The dry fly tied to end of my leader had lasted through the morning, and was all the rage amongst the trout. Now I had to see just how long I could keep it going. It was chewed and chomped, but survived into the late evening while still electing rises. It went above and beyond the call of a dry fly.

Dunne, Biplane by National Library of Ireland on The Commons

Dunne, Biplane

This could be fun. who, where, when, what?

Niall McAuley was on the ball with this one right from kick off, he quickly identified the "Dunne" as John William Dunne!

Dunne worked initially on early military aircraft, concentrating on tailless swept wing designs to achieve the first certified inherently stable aircraft. He later developed a new approach to dry fly fishing before turning to philosophy, where he achieved some pre-eminence and literary influence through his theory on the nature of time and consciousness, which he called "Serialism".

nl042 was close behind Niall, but, I am afraid no cigar this time.

Niall was also first to suggest April 2nd 1910 as he date for this photo, this was backed up by sharon.corbet

The consensus is that this is a D.5 plane, please read the comments for more technical information.

Anyone care to comment on the relationship (if any) between Mason and Getty around this photo?

Date: Circa April 2nd 1910

Welcome to Corsica

This little trout inhabits the sunny Mediterranean Island of Corsica, which is the most mountainous island in the Mediterranean. I found this specimen to be very interesting in terms of its colour and fine pattern.

Brown Trout are amazing in terms of their local adaptation expressed by genetics and morphology. A viewer commented about never seeing red spots on a Brown Trout tail. Indeed unique.
