A Minneapolis small protected oasis area, between a lineup of parking curbs and a chainlink-topped wall. by Tim Kiser

A Minneapolis small protected oasis area, between a lineup of parking curbs and a chainlink-topped wall.

This was in April — you can see some leftover snow and ice down there in the lower left — so that's why this garden area was looking a little bit unkempt right then. I remember during the summers there was also a water feature down in there someplace making "trickle" sounds that were emotionally soothing.

Footpath to B.P. sta., in Mpls., post- Blizzard of '10.

Throughout the period of difficult conditions, hungry Minneapolitans were able to keep their bellies full at B.P. Gas. There were doritos & sunchips & cheezits & slimjims & cans of ranch dip & cheese dip, plus mountain dew & hot gasoline coffee to drink. Thank you British Petroleum!

Unshaven necks of male models, open-eyed assumption of the "glug glug" posture.

It looks like it could easily be a picture of my family! The "families-just-like-mine" imagery is baldfacedly exploita-tative but I can feel it luring me in none the less.

Me personally I'd worry about taking karate-chops to my adams apple were I ever to lift my head up that way.

"Explore Minnesota 10,000 lakes" Minnesota license plate, Minnesotans have been proud of their blue & white license plates for decades but one got lost. by Tim Kiser

"Explore Minnesota 10,000 lakes" Minnesota license plate, Minnesotans have been proud of their blue & white license plates for decades but one got lost.

Very sorely, I pray that that license plate didn't get accidentally pried off the front of a car of a person that parked way too far into the hardened snowbank and then backed up way too fast. License plates are precious to drivers.

Thanks to antiprivacy somebody can probably contact the owner of the license plate and let him or her know that there's a picture of it upon the internet.

In grass alongside a sidewalk, some flamin hot cheetos I found.

How hard does your mouth start to water when you see some. Lots of people feel they're delicious.

Just a modest little nice picture of something comforting in its small way! Little bits of warmpth in the grass.

I can see a campfire blazing next to a great big igloo. Maybe in a coloring book?

It could also be called "Black Gold" because the snow is petroleum-colored yet cheetos are spun from golden maize.

Attractive neighborhood landmark of "Ventura Village" neighborhood. by Tim Kiser

Attractive neighborhood landmark of "Ventura Village" neighborhood.

The bldg's been undergoing slowmo rehab for years and years and I predict it'll be nice-looking whenever it gets finished.

Minneapolis is chopped up into 81 government-designated neighborhoods; the "Ventura Village" neighborhood was split from a larger neighborhood in 2002. On its website of introductions to Minneapolis neighborhoods, the City claims that Ventura Village "took its name from a Spanish word meaning happiness or luck," and when I read that I said "Oh my gosh that's horseshit." Everybody knows it was named for you-know-who.

I certainly hope the name won't frighten people off, but I think it's very laughably cockamamie for the City to either be acting like it's all embarrassed over it now, or to be wink-winking about the explanation for how something in Minnesota could ever have gotten to be named "Ventura" during the period 1999-2003. What happened happened!

The only times I like the way it looks is when it gets a very particular depth of fresh snowfall upon it, very early in winter when some of the flowers are still trying to bloom. Some years those specific circumstances don't ever align!
