
Online, I found a journalistic puffpiece from the local Chronicle-Tribune newspaper profiling the man responsible for the sign. ("Devout, [he] prays daily and openly blends his faith in Jesus Christ with a high degree of determination in business," etc.)
The article is from May 2011 and includes this:
"A used car dealership will also open soon and already has the name Global Crossroads Auto Dealer on the east side of Adams Street."
So apparently the badly fading and streaky Global Crossroads Auto Dealer sign — not the larger sign structure, just the fading/streaky words-and-logo portion — was no more than five years old at the time this picture was taken: Very incompetent sign manufacture!, very very incompetent.
