Whenever I visit London, I cross the Thames via Hungerford Bridge (which links Waterloo with Charing Cross) and I never fail to stop and look at the view towards the east. This is London’s ever-changing skyline, but one feature always remains constant: the glory that is St Paul’s cathedral.
It is, of course, Sir Christopher Wren’s architectural masterpiece. It was completed in 1710, in the aftermath of the Great Fire of London, a five-day firestorm that destroyed the medieval city in 1666. Interestingly, the cathedral was the tallest building in London until 1963. Waterloo Bridge, in the foreground, was opened in 1945.

Basilique de Saint-Nicolas-de-Port
Das am gleichnamigen Flüsschen gelegene Dorf Wipfra kann anhand historischer Dokumente erst ab dem Jahr 1348 nachgewiesen werden. Die Dorfkirche und die ehemalige Burg beweisen jedoch ein deutlich höheres Alter. Das gegenüber der aus der Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts stammenden Dorfkirche befindliche Haus Emil-Völker-Str. 26 fällt durch ein massives gemauertes Erdgeschoss mit einem Renaissance-Türbogen sowie einem stattlichen Obergeschoss in Fachwerkbauweise auf. Leider konnte ich keine weiteren Informationen zu diesem interessanten Bauwerk finden.
