Many cultures have a tradition of eating without utensils. In SE Asia, this includes the Filipinos, Indonesians, and Malaysians. The hand eating etiquette includes careful hand washing before and after meals, and only using the right hand to eat (especially in Islamic cultures where it is a religious prescription), as the left is considered unclean. Eating with your hand is also a more intentional eating style that may result in less overeating and a more enhanced sensory experience involving the temperature and texture of foods that you put in your mouth.
