Goldfinch Amidst the Cosmos

A beautiful European goldfinch peeks out from a tangle of vibrant pink cosmos flowers. Its striking red, white, and black face, along with a bit of green seed in its beak, stands out against the soft, out-of-focus floral background. The image perfectly captures a fleeting, private moment of this charming bird as it forages for seeds.

Zinnia Dahlia

An overcast morning has allowed me to get a good shot of this Vinnia Dahlia in the garden. Taken the old school way with vaseline dabbed around the edge of a 2ND filter.

Teasel

I took this shot of a teasel, probably Dipsacus fullonum, in half full bloom! The way the spiky bracts frame the delicate purple florets is just beautiful, I hope that contrast works. The soft blur of the background, with those lovely clouds against the blue sky, really makes the teasel pop. Essex coast.

Blossom to Bloom (and Beyond!)

A close-up or macro shot of a Sweet Pea and the pea pods, taken in natural light. There's a quiet elegance in this sweet pea, holding onto its delicate petals while also nurturing the future within its developing pod. It feels like a whisper of summer's gentle progression. The soft focus and natural light really bring out its peaceful charm.

So so soft

Soft photos can convey a sense of nostalgia or timelessness, offering a break from the often hyper-realistic and sharp imagery prevalent in today's digital world. This can make your work stand out and resonate more deeply with an audience looking for something beautiful and serene. Late Evening

This image beautifully showcases the unique characteristics of the Lensbaby Sol 45. The most striking feature is the selective focus, where the central Dianthus flower is sharp and vibrant, while the surrounding elements, especially the background, melt into a pleasing blur. This isn't just a standard shallow depth of field; the Sol 45 creates a distinctive "swirl" or "bokeh" effect that is often described as a painterly or ethereal quality.

Center of the universe

At the center of the universe,
a flower whispers its truth:
that life, in all its color and chaos,
was always meant to bloom.
