Dahlias can be very beautiful. They are originally from Mexico and were introduced in Europe by Antonio José Cavanilles, director of the Royal Gardens of Madrid, who sent seeds to other Botanical Gardens in Europe. Easy to hybrid, at least 85 species have been identified. This one at the Madrid Royal Botanical Garden is of the "Waterlily" type.
