Why walk when you can hop? Australia's five species of hopping mice have long, narrow hind legs that allow them to hop quickly away from danger.

Hopping mice are true mice – not marsupials – and are members of the order Rodentia.

This group is part of the 'old world' rodents originally appearing in Australia 4 million to 5 million years ago (unlike the native and introduced rat species in Australia that only arrived about 500,000 years ago).

Since European settlement, six species of hopping mouse have become extinct.

Charadriidae
The Red-capped Plover is the most common and widespread of Australia’s beach-nesting shorebirds. They occur along virtually the entire Australian coastline, but they also occur in great numbers inland, especially around saltlakes. They usually inhabit wide, bare sandflats or mudflats at the margins of saline, brackish or freshwater wetlands where they forage by using their characteristic ‘stop-run-peck’ method, taking small invertebrates from the surface. Their speckled eggs are laid in a shallow depression in the ground, often beneath a low shrub, or out in the open if near water.

Footprints in the Sand

I think footprints in the sand are iconic! I love seeing them because it means people are enjoying nature and are connecting with the Earth! From hearing the crashing ocean waves and feeling the sand between your toes, it's just a great feeling! Playa de la Caleta is an iconic beach in Cádiz. Many people come here to hang out with friends and enjoy the sunset while other city dwellers like walking along th beach! ⛱️ ️

They're all gone

Took this photo from the pier in Whitby, a small town in North Yorkshire best known for the ultimate fish & chips experience. It was foggy day and the scene in front of me inspired an idea of post-catastrophic beach where footprints were frozen in time long time after the last human being evaporated from the surface of the planet.
