Clan Gregor Tug O' War Team

Born of kings and forged in conflict, Clan Gregor is one of the most storied—and persecuted—clans in Scottish history. With bloodlines stretching back to the ancient royal house of Alpin, the MacGregors bore their heritage boldly, even as enemies sought to erase their name. Declared outlaws in 1603, their very identity was criminalised; to call yourself MacGregor was to risk death. Yet through exile, rebellion, and centuries of suppression, the clan endured. Their defiance became legend, their survival a triumph. Today, Clan Gregor rises from the shadows of history, no longer outlawed—only legendary.

Clan MacLaren Chieftain

Following the death of Donald MacLaren of MacLaren and Achleskine on 22 July 2023, the leadership of Clan MacLaren passed to his son, Florian MacLaren, who now serves as the 26th Chief of the Clan. Donald had held the chieftainship since 1966 and was widely respected—not only as clan chief but also as a distinguished diplomat, having served as the British Ambassador to Georgia.

Florian MacLaren has since stepped into his father’s footsteps, carrying forward the legacy with dignity and pride. His appearance at the 2024 Lochearnhead Highland Games, wearing the chieftain’s feather, marked a public affirmation of his new role. The Clan MacLaren Society, which works to preserve and promote the heritage of the clan, continues to support him in this new chapter. Under Florian’s leadership, the spirit of Clan MacLaren remains strong—rooted in tradition, yet looking confidently to the future.

Clan Gregor, or MacGregor, is one of Scotland’s oldest Highland clans, tracing its lineage back to the 9th century and claiming royal descent from Alpin, father of Kenneth MacAlpin—the first King of Scots. The MacGregors have a famously fierce and rebellious reputation, often summed up by their motto “’S Rioghal Mo Dhream”—“Royal is my race.” They were outlawed in the early 1600s after clashes with powerful neighbouring clans and the Crown, most infamously after the Battle of Glen Fruin in 1603. For over 150 years, it was illegal to bear the name MacGregor—a ban only lifted in 1774. Despite centuries of persecution, the clan endured with remarkable resilience, and today it stands as a symbol of strength, identity, and indomitable Highland spirit.
