EURO 4046 TRAIN PORTET-ST-SIMON - CAZÈRES-SUR-GARONNE

Nez Cassé loco having detached from its train originating in Nantes.

This currently underused Paris terminus was something of a building site at the time of the picture.

Armchair Travel

The extreme comfort of an SNCF Corail coach: now a bit shabby perhaps but a great way to travel on 'classic route' main lines in France - in this case just 10 Euros from Le Mans to Paris Austerlitz.

R15093. Plandampf? Or just plain damp! Certainly, the amount of rain that fell over the Dampfspektakel Plandampf weekend remains an abiding memory although some of the German enthusiasts there told me that as I was from England I should be used to it!

However, the event went on regardless of the weather with several special trains – Sonderzüge – being run with some of them going over the border to Wissembourg in France. This is one of them behind Br. / Class 042 2-8-2 042 360 prior to its return to base at Neustadt an der Weinstraße in the Pfalz area of western Germany.

R15029. A Class X3800 ‘Picasso’ diesel railcar at Hallines on the The Chemin de fer Touristique de la Vallée de L’Aa (or Aa Valley Tourist Railway). This is a volunteer run heritage railway based at Arques in northern France around 49km (or 30½ miles) from the Channel Coast at Calais. It’s 15km ( or a bit over 9 miles) long and ends at Lumbres.

As well as Picasso railcars there are also loco hauled passenger carriages for which the motive power is a BB63000 B-B diesel-electric locomotive or a Polish Ty2 ‘Kriegslok’ 2-10-0.
