The second unit painted in Soo Line's new all-red scheme was SD40-2 #772. Here we see it fresh out of the paint booth at Shoreham Yard on August 9, 1989. Note that while the first unit painted, GP38-2 #4403 did not that three horizontal stripes on its nose, #772 included them. Photo by none other than Jim Shepard.
A very fresh face made its way across the Gallup Sub today with CSX 5487 leading a hot Atlanta to San Bernardino Z train. The derated 4400 to 4000hp GE received the new YN3 paint job minus the boxcar logo not too long ago and still looks great. There's hardly even any exhaust build up around the stack and radiators, or any streaks on the white cab roof. Luckily for us when the third BNSF unit was added in Belen early this morning, it went into the 4th spot. After a crew change in Winslow, the 90 loads will move across the Seligman Sub tonight and onto Needles by morning.
Thanks for clicking enough times to view this picture. If your Flickr experience is as shoddy as mine, despite paying for a "Pro" account, you nearly always end up at the panda page when clicking on a photo, then go back and try again to get it to actually open. Annoying AF.
CN 8328 was part of a power return move from BNSF picked up at Northtown this day. A one way trip over the Minneapolis Sub from where it will vanish into the CN network. Stolen glances at night will have to suffice until the SD75IACCs are common enough to show up assigned to the L516/L517 trains. March 1, 2025.
