It was announced this week that the Squirrel Bar, a Barras institution, is to close its doors for the last time in the very near future. With those colours, it's not surprising that it was a bit of a Celtic pub. So, yet another part of Glasgow's heritage is due to disappear, but at least it will get some immortality from Raymond Depardon's photos from the early 1980s.

The Glasgow polis had a busy Saturday (7th September). There were no football fixtures due to the international break but there was a Far Right demo (advertised as Pro UK) and a (much larger) counter protest. Each had their own radical elements, possibly aligned to the particular Glasgow football teams (no, not Queens Park and Partick Thistle). These guys here were part of the counter demo and are being contained (kettled) by the police.
