Bunker V191 – Wasserbombenwerfer forteiland IJmuiden
Bouwnummer 5852

Unique in the Netherlands, a V191 Wasserbombenwerfer (construction number 5852). Originally, there were two bunkers of this type on the Forteiland. After the island was reduced in size in the 1960s, only one remained. There is no other example to be found in the Netherlands. This bunker was intended to throw depth charges into the canal. With a weight of 185 kg, the bomb could be fired 120 m using a Krupp depth charge thrower. By using different charges, the range could be varied. The remains of the setup are still visible. The depth charges were also stored in both rooms.

Kringsat af fjender

Kringsat af fjender, gå
ind i din tid!
Under en blodig storm -
vi dig til strid!

Kanske du spør' i angst,
udækket, åben:
Hvad skal jeg kæmpe med,
hvad er mit våben?

Her er dit værn mod vold,
her er dit sværd:
Troen på livet vort,
menneskets værd

For al vor fremtids skyld,
søg det og dyrk det,
dø om du må - men:
øg det og styrk det!

Stilt går granaternes
glidende bånd
Stands deres drift mod død,
stands dem med ånd!

Krig er foragt for liv
Fred er at skabe
Kast dine kræfter ind:
Det onde skal tabe!

[TRANSLATION]

Encircled by enemies

Encircled by enemies,
enter your time.
Under a bloody storm -
devote yourself to battle!

Perhaps you ask in fear,
uncovered, open:
What shall I fight with,
what is my weapon?

Here is your shield from violence,
here is your sword:
the faith in our life,
the worth of mankind!

For all our future’s sake,
seek it and tend it.
Die if you must - but:
Increase it and strengthen it!

Silently goes the grenades'
gliding band.
Stop their drift towards death,
stop them with spirit!

War is contempt for life,
Peace is creating.
Throw your forces in,
Evil shall be beaten!

Jersey, Channel Islands - La Houge Bie

The "old" and updated chapel of Richard Mabon, sits atop a mysterious mound. In 1924 the La Societe Jersiaise began to dig into the mound. What they found proved to be one of the first Neolithic tombs in Europe. Dating back between 2200-1800 BC, built by the Iberians. It is believed that the Vikings pillaged the site, removing all items of value. During World War II, the site was fortified by the Germans and a 26 foot observation tower added. Budapest - Lipótváros: Szabadság tér - A német megszállás áldozatainak emlékműve

A német megszállás áldozatainak emlékműve, a memorial for victims of the German occupation of Hungary in 1944, designed by Párkányi Raab Péter, was installed at the end of Szabadság tér on July 20, 2014. The monument sparked controversy with Jewish community organizations alleging it absolved the Hungarian state of their collaboration with Nazi Germany and complicity in the Holocaust. The memorial consists of a stone statue of the Archangel Gabriel, holding the globus cruciger (cross-bearing orb) of the Hungarian kings, the national symbol of Hungary and Hungarian sovereignty, as it is about to be grabbed by an eagle with extended claws resembling the German coat of arms, inscribed with the year 1944 on its ankle, set against a seven-meter high tympanum.
