This was a difficult shot, taken in a dark coop with wire fencing...so I am delighted that others enjoy this as much as I do!

While we were visiting the Farm Center, my husband was startled by a very large shadow passing over him. I ran around the pig enclosure to capture this shot of a crane walking on the other side.

This pair flew into the farm area from nearby bogs and selected the employee-only lane of the Farm Center. They knew where they were going: to those pens with plentiful food. The very large domesticated pigs were not bothered by, nor bothered the cranes. On this day there were many pumpkins broken open with lots of tasty seeds. I walked down the lane to get this and a few other shots.

This image shows clearly the white c or comma shape on the underside of the hind wing that gives this species its name. Seen in my garden in beautiful Northamptonshire.
[This is a re-post in a bit more favorable light setting.] It was opportunistic to not only locate a hawk nest..but have the pleasure of finding 2 young for a portrait!
