SCL Clinchfield Number 1 Ten Wheeler steam locomotive and train is about to cross the Hillsborough River Truss Bridge while heading to Busch Gardens to pick up the local Rough Riders group in Tampa, Florida, 7-22-1978, Fred Clark, Jr. For the most part the two EMD F B-units are actually providing the motive power for the train while the little 4-6-0 is just for show, although it can actually handle two cars with its low 125 psi boiler pressure. The "Rough Riders" is a local Tampa group or organization that dresses in the role of the actual Rough Riders that were led by Col. Theodore Roosevelt (Later President of the U.S.) that departed from Tampa heading to Cuba during the Spanish American War.

SCL Clinchfield Railroad Ten Wheeler 4-6-0 Number 1 steam locomotive is almost ready to depart with its 13 car excursion trip northbound, with the final oiling taking place at Union Station in Tampa, Florida, 7-24-1978. Fred Clark, Jr. Actually there was one additional car on the train and it was a gondola full of extra coal. This train went all around the SC Railroad. "The Family Lines," Railroad to provide excursion service and to be used for publicity purposes. The locomotive had controls in the cab to operate the two EMD B-units that were behind the tender. This Steam locomotive built in 1882, operates with 125 psi and could only handle two passenger cars by itself, so that is why the B-units are included to haul the long train. This steam locomotive was used in revenue service until 1955. In 1959, I believe that the locomotive's frame cracked, so that ended its service and it is now displayed in the B&O Museum in Baltimore.

Texas & Pacific LIMA 2-10-4 steam locomotive 610 leads a Southern Railroad 18 car Excursion Train back to Birmingham, Alabama at a location West of Chattanooga, Tennessee, 07-10-1977, Fred Clark, Jr. This train was operated as an EXTRA, as indicated by the white flags mounted to the smoke box boiler front. While this steam locomotive was in operation Fred wanted to capture it in action which he did do. This engine was not used for very long in excursion train service by the Southern Railroad due to numerous mechanical problems encountered when in operation.

New Haven Railroad officials (aka: suits) are seen in a discussion while at the ground level yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut, July 6, 1926. In the background you can see the electric motor storage area and also the steam locomotive water tower and coaling tower. The motor directly behind the man with the white shirt appears to be an EF-1 class motor, but of course in those days there were no motor classes, because they came later for all motors. Check out the heavyset man because he is wearing a summertime straw hat of the era.

New Haven Railroad with a display of The Rexall Train's New York Central streamlined L-2c class 4-8-2 Mohawk steam locomotive with onlookers and observers present on the platform at Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut, 8-25-1936. You can see someone in the engineer's cab window, and perhaps it is a hostler keeping the fire under control. In this view you may observe the full streamlining of the steam locomotive and tender. The car coupled to the tender is the Kantleek, which is a baggage-club car that was previously known as Whitney under Pullman ownership. It is being used mainly for storage and to provide work space for the crew and staff. However; the car also contains generators and other required equipment to power the Electro-Mechanical air-conditioning systems and lights. So this in reality is an early day HEP system. The steam locomotive is NYC Mohawk 2873.
