The tower of the Helligaandskirken (Church of the Holy Spirit) in Copenhagen, photographed during the winter, combines a red brick base, typical of northern European architecture, with a gray-green upper structure and a Baroque-influenced belfry visible on the façade. Highlights include the golden dial clock in the central section and the copper-plated dome. Located in the heart of the Danish capital's historic center, the church is one of the oldest in the city, having originally been part of a 13th century hospital complex and adapted for Lutheran worship in the 16th century. After a fire in 1728, it was rebuilt and consecrated in 1732.

Day 6: Dickeyville Grotto Selfie

So my most frequent GOOD dream involves me scoring an absolutely amazing deal on a camera (or multiple cameras) at some sort of second-hand store. On the way back from Wisconsin, I happened to score a Canon A-1 and Pentax K1000 for $12 and $10, respectively. Hell yeah. Also scored an Olympus IS-3 for $13, which is not as staggeringly amazing a deal, but still pretty cool, and I've wanted one of those for a while.

Did a lot of antiquing at spots I've never been to before. One of the places was an antique store built into an old barn where a lot of the antiques were up in a loft that had a very "DIY" sort of aesthetic. As in, I felt like I was going to fall through the wobbly plywood flooring and die the whole time I was up there. But I didn't!

This shot was in a very cool, very weird little folk-art-style grotto outside of the Holy Ghost church in Dickeyville, IA. The Dickeyville Grotto.

Marienplatz (Mary's Square) a central square iHeilig-Geist-Kirche (Church of the Holy Spirit) a Gothic hall church in Munich, Germany.

One of the oldest churches in Munich Its history goes back to the thirteenth century, when a hospice and a Romanesque chapel stood here. After they were destroyed by fire in 1327 a new hospice was built, and the chapel was replaced with a Gothic church. In 1806 the hospice was torn down on the order of King Maximilian I to make room for the Viktualienmarkt.

The church’s present appearance is the result of a series of remodelling in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. A first restyling of the exterior was done by Johann Georg Ettenhofer in 1730, while the interior was redecorated in a lavish Baroque style by the Asam Brothers who added ceiling frescoes and stucco. The church was expanded at the end of the nineteenth century by Franz Löwel, who designed the front facade in a Neo-Baroque style.

The interior is a fine example of Gothic architecture, decorated with magnificent frescoes and stucco work in Baroque and Rococo. The ceiling frescoes in the choir show scenes that tell the story of the founding of the hospice that stood at this site, while ceiling frescoes in the nave depict the spiritual gifts.

It has been the city's main square since 1158. During the Middle Ages, markets and tournaments were held in the Marienplatz, which was originally called Markth (market), Schranne (grain market) and later Schrannenplatz (grain market square). After said grain market was moved into the modern glass-and-iron Schranne near "Blumenstrasse" in 1853, the square received its new name.

Mariensäule a Marian column erected in its centre in 1638 to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation. Today the Marienplatz is dominated by the New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) on the north side, and the Old City Hall (Altes Rathaus) a reconstructed gothic council hall with a ballroom and tower on the east side.

The Glockenspiel in the tower of the new city hall was inspired by the tournaments that were held in the square during the Middle Ages and draws millions of tourists a year. Furthermore, the pedestrian zone between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz is a crowded area with numerous shops and restaurants.

Three weeks before Christmas the Christkindlmarkt opens at Marienplatz and other squares in the city, selling Christmas goods and food and drink.

Holy Ghost Church, Coleman, Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Canada

Surely it was a quick visit to the Crowsnest Pass region in southwest Alberta, Canada. While we only made a few scenic stops, we were impressed with the pretty scenery and the quaint towns that form the municipality. We stopped in Coleman for a delicious dinner at a pub. Across the pub was the former Holy Ghost Church. We then drove to Lethbridge for the rest of our road trip.
