The Sapphire Lounge is part of the famous Floridan Palace Hotel, formally called the Hotel Floridan.
The "Hotel Floridan" began construction in 1926 and finished in 1927, becoming Tampa's tallest building until the Franklin Exchange building in 1966. The lounge was a famous hot spot for servicemen training to fly B-17's , during WWII. They were stationed nearby in the old fair grounds, where barracks were made. The drinking, nightlife and wild nature of the lounge with the building as a beacon for early tourism lodging in Tampa made for a more than exciting place.
"The Surefire Lounge" was a nickname among some for the romantic easiness of establishment.

"The Instrumental Aires, featured at the Sapphire Room, Hotel Floridan, Tampa, Florida."
A real photo postcard showing the three suave fellows who performed as the Instrumental Aires at the Hotel Floridan (now the Floridan Palace Hotel). An ad from 1955 identified the musicians as "Bill Horn, direct from 2 years in Las Vegas, Bill Byers, Tampa's favorite vocalist, [and] Rickey Powell, wizard of the strings" (I'm not sure who's who in the photo, however).

Often misspelled and mispronounced (as FloridIAN), the FloriDAN hotel was the tallest building in Florida when it was built in 1926 (opened in 1927). It has been undergoing extensive renovations since 2005 and a reopening is expected soon. The Floridan's original sign, which was found by work crews during the cleaning of the building in 2005, and had adorned the roof for decades, was restored and placed on the hotel's rooftop once more in late summer 2008. The hotel reopened in 2012.
