The Ritz Theater was probably first opened in the 1950s. The rather plain building is enhanced by the use of shades of blue colors on the facade and the royal blue sign, trimmed in red, with “Ritz” in white letters. The Ritz closed in 2018. The building was donated to the Piney Woods Fine Arts Association in 2023 and was extensively renovated. The Ritz was reopened in March 2025 to host the musical performances, arts and theater. This photograph was taken in January 2025.
The Duke & Ayres chain of stores, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, operated from 1910 to 1990. In the early 1970s the chain was acquired by the Ben Franklin variety store chain.
