"Festivity tree" ribbons decoration idea.

This picture — my picture, the one you're looking at — is the only thing I can think of that would justify the effort involved in putting all these ribbons in this tree. Nobody else's happiness at seeing the ribbons is as large as my happiness at seeing my picture of the ribbons.

Which is not to say that my happiness is particularly large. It's just larger than.

Imaginary Hernando de Soto visits a building in southern Alabama. by Tim Kiser

Imaginary Hernando de Soto visits a building in southern Alabama.

This being the U.S., it figures that a portrayal of Hernando de Soto would neglect to depict the murderous cruelty for which he is best known. "The conquistadors were white supremacists too," say the white Alabamans of popular stereotype, with satisfied smiles.

Sentimental aged at trash. by Tim Kiser

Sentimental aged at trash.

Sentimental bronze statues of idealized elderly on parkbenches are fairly common in small U.S. cities.

This one is conceptually a mess: It is assumed (perhaps correctly, given its location in Alabama) that viewers' sentimentality toward the marketing trope of a gentle and comfortable elderly couple will overwhelm any awareness of the incongruousness of the statue's setting, among a dozen smelly trash bins outside a loading dock.

Does grandma bring her pet lapcat with her to the loading dock? Or do they weirdly have a parkbench in the unseen living room implied by the housecat's presence? Or is the cat a tick-infested feral stray that suddenly decided to curl up on a stranger's lap? Is that a Vogue magazine granddad is reading?

Guess the year of this lawfirm architecture. Answer: It's 1971, did you guess right.

'71 was a big year for brown buildings in the U.S., almost as big as '72, '73, '74, and '75. Is it correct to speak of the protruding attachments as awnings?

Winter sun and gray palm in typical U.S. urban scenery.

I had my kids with me for this and I reassured them that the palm would rise up green in the spring.

"It'll rise up green. It looks like cheerleaders' pompoms doesn't it," I said. "Isn't this open area nice?, we can see far." The older one said yes and the younger one was quiet which is not unusual.

This being the U.S. — and Alabama! — I am surprised tbh-tbqh that anybody involved in putting this up would've have the idea to ornamentally slope the fencetop, and the wherewithal to implement the idea.
