1957 Chevy Wagon

Encountered this beautiful 57 Chevy Wagon at the Englewood Theater in Independence, MO. I think it was being used as a prop for a fundraiser the theater was having to raise money for renovations. The car was really clean and clearly well cared for...what a classic piece of American automotive history. Image captured with my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 530/2 on TriX 400 film. Self developed with D76 at 1:1 dilution.

Englewood Theater (aka KC Opry) by J Kilgo

Englewood Theater (aka KC Opry)

Drove to Independence, MO Saturday to attend an Estate Sale and while we were there we took a spin around town. We discovered a really cool downtown area and stopped for a few pictures. This shot was taken around the historic Englewood theater, which I later learned used to be a popular Country Music venue called the KC Opry. Apparently Garth Brooks performed there early in his career before he was famous. The theater has changed hands several times over the years and I think the current plan is to use it as a regular movie theater. The 57 Chevy wagon was in really nice condition. By the way, I picked up 4 really nice cameras at the sale...more later on this. Image captured with my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 530/2 on Tri-X 400 film. Developed with D76 at 1:1.

Mother Daughter Love

Spent this past Saturday shooting film at City Market in Kansas City. I'm getting better at approaching random strangers to take their picture...most really don't mind, but during this outing I actually had two rejections. This image from this session really stood out for me...the young lady leaning in to mom and her demure expression really speaks to the bond between mother and daughter. This image captured with my Kodak Retina IIIc on JCH Streetpan 400 film. Developed with D76 at 1:1.

Wedding Photos in KC

We were out Saturday exploring Kansas City and we ventured to one of our favorite spots, the WWI museum. As we were walking up to the overlook we noticed a wedding party having pictures taken at the museum. I was hoping to get up to them before they finished but unfortunately they wrapped things up just as we were getting to the spot they were shooting. I readied my Retina IIIc as they walked down the ramp and shot one frame. I wasn't expecting much from the image, but was pleasantly surprised with the result when I developed the film. The bride and her Maid of Honor seem so happy...I think the groom is the gentleman in the middle of the three men and he seems happy too. I wish them all the best in their union and hope that the joy they are experiencing in the moment carries through during their entire marriage. Retina IIIc on JCH 400 film. There's The Rub. City Market, KCMO

I had a wonderful day with a couple of film cameras Sunday at City Market in KCMO. I typically find it challenging to approach strangers to ask to take their picture, but I've found that people with dogs are easy to approach and usually don't mind. This young lady was very proud of her pooch and I must say he was very well behaved in an environment with so many people and a lot of other dogs. Skateboarder at City Market

This fellow approached me while we were at City Market in Kansas City last Sunday and was interested in my camera. He is also a film photographer and we had a nice conversation about film cameras, film types, scanning and editing techniques, etc. He has a wonderful film portfolio on Instagram @cutthemonitors. He was really happy about how this image turned out. Minolta Autocord LMX on Lucky SHD 400 film. Developed with D76 at 1:1.

City Market KCMO

Spent the morning yesterday walking around City Market in KCMO with a couple of film cameras. I got some nice images...weather was perfect, albeit a bit on the bright side. This fella and his puppy were enjoying the day too and he was getting the pup used to people and other dogs. Captured with a recently acquired Minolta Autocord LMX TLR on Lucky SHD 400 film. Weird Stuff Antiques Kansas City

I acquired a No. 2 Brownie Model F camera at an estate sale last week for $15. After a light cleaning I had it out Saturday for a test run. The image featured here was taken at Weird Stuff Antiques in the West Bottoms district of Kansas City, MO. This is a cool junk shop that I visit every time time I drive in to the West Bottoms. I'm not sure what kind of cars these are, but I thought they were pretty cool. The No. 2 Brownie Model F was manufacturered beginning in 1924 and features an all aluminum body, compared to the previous cardboard bodies from earlier Brownie box cameras. The camera has two apertures and fixed shutter of approximately 1/50 of a second. It also has a B setting. Image captured using Foma 100 film, developed with Xtol at 1:1.

Gotta Love Horses, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival 2025

The St. Martin's Parish Sheriff Department's horse patrol was in attendance at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival this past weekend. As you would expect they attracted quite a bit of attention. Here a father and his young daughter admire these beautiful creatures. A good time was had by all at the festival this year. We're looking forward to our next visit to Breaux Bridge. Captured with my Yashica EM TLR on JCH 400 film. Developed with D76 at 1:1 dilution.
