Varanasi (Inde) - Quand je photographie, je fais attention de ne pas être trop intrusif. Même en Inde, où les hindous aiment être photographiés, surtout quand ils se livrent à des rituels religieux.
Chose rare, il arrive qu’une personne s’agace du voyeurisme des touristes. C’est ce que j’ai cru qui se passait avec cette femme lorsque j’ai aperçu son œil noir dans mon viseur au moment en je déclenchais. J’ai aussitôt posé mon appareil photo pour lui adresser un petit signe de la main en guise d’excuse. Elle a abaissé sa main, découvrant son visage en me gratifiant d’un grand sourire et m’adressant un grand signe de la main. J’avais mal apprécié sa réaction.
The eye of Varanasi
Varanasi (India) - When I photograph, I am careful not to be too intrusive. Even in India, where Hindus like to be photographed, especially when they are performing religious rituals.
It is rare, however, that a person gets annoyed by the voyeurism of tourists. That is what I thought was happening with this woman when I saw her stern eye in my viewfinder as I was taking the shot. I immediately lowered my camera to give her a little wave of my hand as an apology. That is when she lowered her hand, uncovering her face, giving me a big smile and a wave.
