This Sandhill Crane has been foraging on the lawn with Canada Geese for a while. The fact it is so well coordinated indicates it likely does not have bird flu. The left wing hangs lower than the right. It appears it may be sprained.It doesn't look like it noticed the person sitting at the picnic table behind the trees. So this juvenile thumped into our kitchen window and was sprawling on the ground. I gently picked it up and put it on a pine bush. It sat there panting for five minutes. I thought i couldn't leave it there as it didn't look like it would recover.

I sat it on my hand talking quietly and gently stroking it's feathers. After another 10 minutes I wondered what else I could do when it suddenly straightened up and flew off. Hurrah.
