This train made a brief stop at the CPKC* yard office in Revelstoke for what appeared to be a shift change.

*CPKC is the combination of two historic railways – Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS). In 2023, the two railways merged and became the first North American rail network to connect Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

Kansas City Southern 4100 Eastbound Over the Mississippi River (redux)

This is from January 31, 2009

After finishing up seminars in Alabama and Mississippi, I stayed over in Vicksburg before heading north and snagging some Mississippi River bridges on the way home. I thought I'd try for some early-morning-light shots before leaving. When I got there, the light really wasn't that special (for the bridges), but then I spotted the lights of this locomotive coming onto the bridge on the west side. I ran (well, I walked fast) down to a better spot to catch the train coming off of the bridge and managed to squeeze off a few shots. Railroad bridge shots are nice. Railroad bridge shots with a train are way better.

Tones adjusted, and I have fixed Flickr's oversharpening and I've edited the text a little.

After finishing up seminars in Alabama and Mississippi this week, I stayed over in Vicksburg before heading north and snagging some Mississippi River bridges on the way home. I've already photographed this bridge last summer, but I thought I'd try for some early morning light shots before departing. When I got there, the light really wasn't that special (for the bridges), but then I spotted the lights of this locomotive coming on to the bridge on the west side. I ran (well, I walked fast) down to a better spot to catch the train coming off of the bridge and managed to squeeze off a few shots. Railroad bridge shots are nice. Railroad bridge shots with a train are way better.

The Old Vicksburg Bridge is a cantilever bridge carrying one rail line (Kansas City Southern Railway) across the Mississippi River between Delta, Louisiana and Vicksburg, Mississippi. Until 1998, the bridge was open to motor vehicles and carried US 80 across the Mississippi River, though one road lane runs through the bridge for inspection by workers. Wikipedia

Here's a shot from pretty much the same spot.
