Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae)

Several of these were out this afternoon hitting on as many Zinnias as possible. This one blanketed a small bloom in the Dixon Gardens, Memphis, Tennessee. I had already shot several of these in profile, but wanted at least one to show off its full wings. Finally, it posed!!!

Buckeye (Junonia coenia)

Red-spotted Purple (Limenitis arthemis astyanax)

This was seen along the side of a wooded area at the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, Mississippi. According to other sources, the Red-spotted Purple is a mimic of the poisonous Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor) and is typically found in open woodlands and along forest edges. It was the best shot I could get of this one. Wait until I get my new lens!!!
