A long vanished scene with all swept away with the opening of the Robin Hood Line and the NET Tram system..!

LMS Lincoln Street Crossing & Signal Box 1916 (Nottingham) - 2.x.1989

A view south towards the centre of Nottingham along the Mansfield to Nottingham Midland Railway route from Worksop. This is now part of the Robin Hood Line and the NET tracks now the right side of this view. The 1916 MR Type 4a Signal Box is long gone (closed 29th September 2001) though the MR footbridge survives! Otherwise the scene has been transformed out of all recognition..........!

View on 2nd October 1989

Beal Street Leicester 29th May 2012

This Midland Railway signal box used to stand at Lincoln Street Crossing just north of Basford station in Nottingham but when it closed in 2001 it was moved to Leicester for use as a training facility by Network Rail. It is the only reminder of the old signalling at Leicester.

Until 1986 this would have been open view across multiple tracks all controlled by semaphore signals with goods yards beyond not to mention the old Leicester shed site off to the left where the greenery is. The large modern building behind Lincoln Street Crossing box was the new power box that replaced all the mechanical signalling. Today this box itself is redundant and out-of-use since Derby East Midlands Control Centre (EMCC) took over control at the end of 2011. Leicester Midland station is the low building above the trees at left although it's not so obvious since the overall roof was removed in the 1970s.
