Merely to look at the waters is to loudly slurp them.

Wins a Best of Riverine Silt-Ladenness Award for March 2022: the Mussel Fork!, in northern Mo.

I stand alongside the winning river and blow it kisses and smile and wink and wave two-handedly at it and take pictures of it. Next I earnestly document the award in the notes app on my phone.

In the central U.S., let MODERATELY DISSECTED TILL PLAINS be the lands your rural roads pass among. by Tim Kiser

In the central U.S., let MODERATELY DISSECTED TILL PLAINS be the lands your rural roads pass among.

This was us kids' playground growing up. We ate the dirt and wallered in it, and catcalled passing cars, and bit and hit one another.

We did not know anything about dissected till plains, nor the age of our local glacial tills (pre-Illinoian, per Roadside Geology of Missouri by Charles G. Spencer). Our parents and teachers had all refused to learn about such things, so could not teach us.

In the central U.S., let MODERATELY DISSECTED TILL PLAINS be the lands your rural roads pass among.

Do it today!

Did you know: According to Roadside Geology of Missouri by Charles G. Spencer (2011), the glacial tills of northern Missouri (seen here!!) were deposited in discrete episodes ranging from 2.4 million years ago to 600,000 years ago: Therefore they are Pre-Illinoian.
