American Bar

The American Bar, Lime Street, Liverpool City Centre, scanned from an old colour slide, probably late 1960's - note NO minature Statue of Liberty above street level and Yates's Wine Lodge next door !
The pub was first opened in 1830 and was popular with Empire Theatre thespians, then the Americans came over during the war. They duly took to it and called it The American Bar.
Sadly now demolished.

Gushing with Grandeur-mono edit

This beautiful fountain situated between the Walker Art Gallery and Wellington column on William Brown Street.

The Steble Fountain by Paul Lienard was unveiled in 1879 as a gift to Liverpool from Colonel R. F. Steble who was Mayor in 1874-5.

The circular stone basin has a cast iron centrepiece with marine figures reclining beneath two smaller basins from which water tumbles out of a mermaid's shell and fish masks.

The original fountain designed by Lienard was produced for the Paris Exposition of 1867. It was transported to America where it now stands in front of the Massachusetts State House, Boston Common, Boston, USA and is known as the Brewer Fountain. Other castings are to be found in Geneva, Lyon and Bordeaux. The Steble Fountain was cast by W. T. Allen & Co. of London.

I love how the sunlight is catching the spray and how the girl is sitting cross-legged on the wall, sketching the scene.
