Hartlepool Transport, Dennis Dominator No9, 1983

A close up study of Hartlepool Transport No9, one of the six East Lancs bodied Dennis Dominators purchased by Hartlepool in 1979 (8-13, BEF708T-713T). No9 is parked outside what was to become the new Hartlepool Transport offices on Church Street, fronting Lynn Street bus garage. No further examples were purchased, and all six 'Dominators' had short lives with Hartlepool being withdrawn in c1991-2 and sold on for scrap.

Their appearance was almost that of a cut down double-deck Dennis Dominator. However, the bolt-on, shed-like engine compartment and rear end structure was certainly a design malfunction.

Eight of these brutes were built to this awkward design, two of them going to Barrow Transport in Barrow-in-Furness. Further single deck examples were built for Thamesdown, Merthyr and Darlington a year or so later. By then East Lancs had improved the rear-end design by bringing the roofline over the top of the engine compartment.

Following the enactment of the Transport Act 1985, the Hartlepool Transport undertaking was transferred to the ownership of 'Hartlepool Transport Ltd' in October 1986, a private company who's shares were held by the Council. In 1990 the recently built Lynn Street bus garage was transferred into the ownership of the council, then rented back to Hartlepool Transport Ltd. This laid the ground for a management and workforce buyout that came into effect in June 1993.

As with many workforce buyouts it quickly fell victim to being sold off to one of the large private transport combines. In December 1994, Hartlepool Transport Ltd was acquired by the Stagecoach Group. The Company's legal address was transferred to the offices of Cleveland Transit Ltd, Stockton-on-Tees; Cleveland Transit having come into Stagecoach ownership in November 1994.

In 1996, the rental agreement with Hartlepool Council in regard to the Lynn Street bus garage ended and the bus fleet was transferred to more basic premises on Brenda Road, formerly occupied by the Tees & District Transport Co Ltd.

The Lynn Road bus garage continued to be used by Hartlepool Council for the storage and operation of other council department vehicles and equipment. By 2017, the council had moved out of the Lynn Street premises and the property was sold for use as film and TV studios.

Lil' charmer & the cute stain it made. by Tim Kiser

Lil' charmer & the cute stain it made.

"Luv ya sweetie" I said and patted it.

Here is a huge surprise: The pipe was installed (and the gray paint was applied) sometime after July 2019. The rust stain is a recent stain.

Here, look at Google Streetview in July 2019: the pipe was not here!

Ugh another huge surprise is that this building in its original form — built in 1855 as a tobacco factory — was repurposed by the Confederates as a prison for U.S. troops. Then it went back to being a tobacco factory again.

It has been majorly remodeled since the U.S. Civil War, but I think it should have been torn down completely!

These are 2 olden beverages at a furniture world. by Tim Kiser

These are 2 olden beverages at a furniture world.

This furniture world is named "Furniture World." Its sign shows a ringed planet; the ring reads "Buy Sell Trade."

The sign was installed as though the Pepsi logotype wasn't even there. Maybe you and I are the only ones who can see the Pepsi logotype.

Do you like that gray Jeep Commander from model years 2006-2010. Do you like Furniture World's 1992 GMC Vandura.

In my opinion the color of the light blue paint surrounding the door is not dissimilar enough from the adjacent areas of white paint.

Oh look a former chewing tobacco factory from 1883, as viewed in 2022. by Tim Kiser

Oh look a former chewing tobacco factory from 1883, as viewed in 2022.

There are numerous star anchor plates upon the building.

Additionally, my special brain perceives the shape of that big blob of vines as a perfect five-pointed star.

Brick red was a good choice for the color of the paint on the panels of OSB covering the windows, don't you agree. Have you ever seen so many segmental arches on a single building.
