1941 skyscraper in the U.S. south.

The depression had ended and people in the U.S. were out building skyscrapers again I guess.

Try not to be such a comfortable aesthete as to forget to associate the building with the distinctive political and social oppression of its time. Anyone with the means to cause a large commercial building to be erected in Georgia in the 1940s should not be presumed to be basically decent, right?

PRIVATE PARKING, absurdly monstrously large.

This pompous "C.R. Rader Co." is a local jewelry retailer, sheesh.

I don't buy jewelry because it's a waste of money but if I did I'd avoid C.R. Rader because I wouldn't want the company thinking I admire its parking lot ethos.

Admire the symmetricality. The two windows nearest the doorway mirror one another in their respective proportions of brick and cinderblock fill-up.

According to the people of the Macon/Bibb County Board of Assessors the bldg is from circa 1900. I love to learn!

As of February 2017 the building had a pink-colored architectural slipcover. It is seen here undergoing a renovation as part of the "Crescent Corners" phase of the "Central City Commons" project. It is a gentrification.

• The building was erected from 1969 to 1970 and designed by Morris Lapidus & Associates and was formerly the Macon Hilton, formerly the Macon Downtown Hotel, formerly the Crowne Plaza Macon, formerly the Radisson Hotel, and formerly the Ramada Plaza Macon.
• The hotel has been closed since February 2011. • The name of Morris Lapidus is ruined forever by his association with the [Fred] Trump Village apartment complex in Brooklyn, which he designed. Shame on him.
