Amtrak Champion southbound being lined up for a siding in a meeting with the Silver Star northbound at the Clearwater Country Club Golf Course in Clearwater, Florida, 1-10-1976, Fred, Clark, Jr. This is a rather neat area to enter a siding and perhaps it was a surprise to the passengers. The track through this area is SCL property, but was previously the SAL route between Tampa and Clearwater-Saint Petersburg. You can see the crewman throwing the switch to the siding.

Amtrak Floridian northbound with 2nd new power ( EMD F40PH locomotive 232) in a long time (since SDP40F's) entering the city at old ACL - SAL crossover track in Clearwater, Florida, 9-5-1977, Fred Clark, Jr. If you notice there is either an E8B or E9B unit following the F40PH locomotive 232.

Rock Island 1924 Brooks (ALCO) built M-50 class Mountain steam locomotive 4039 leads its city bound heavyweight passenger train consist past the ERIE 14th Street Freight House in Chicago, Illinois, ca 1940's. The engineer in his cab window is looking down most likely to see that his sanders are working. You can see the bell in operation by its swing position.

New York Central ALCO J-3a class 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive 5420 leads a city bound heavyweight passenger train while passing the ERIE 14th Street Freight House in Chicago, Illinois, ca 1940's. You can clearly see the engineer in his cab window. This locomotive has Boxpok driver and stainless steel handrails. This station area may be at Englewood, but I don't really know and perhaps someone can help identify this location.

Rock Island ALCO bullt 1910 P-33 class 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive 933 is seen leading an inbound city commuter train past the ERIE 14th Street Freight House in Chicago, Illinois, ca 1940's. You can easily see the engineer in his cab window with the bell ringing on the locomotive while it is along side of a New York Central tender on passenger train led by a 4-6-4 Husdson steam locomotive.

Blue Ridge Southern Railroad view of the main line heading East from Canton to Asheville, North Carolina, 9-16-2022. New Haven Railroad I-5 class Hudson steam locomotive is seen leading a 6 car heavyweight passenger train along the Shore Line at speed, ca 1940's. This is light work for the Hudson with only a REA refrigerator boxcar, REA-baggage car, RPO and what appears to be three coaches. You can plainly see the engineer in his cab window. This location appears to be the start of a yard area with numerous tracks being seen.

New Haven Railroad I-4 class steam locomotive # 1355 is seen with an extra passenger train in the snow while it is stopped at a station platform, ca winter 1930's. A cab crew member, probably the fireman is boarding the locomotive cab. This station location is unknown to me and the photo was from the Internet.

Penn Central ex New Haven Railroad ALCO RS-11 # 7669 makes switching moves with a Maintenance Of Way train near tower SS38 at Stamford, Connecticut, 1971. The caboose has been set off on a stub end siding next to the train. There is a small New Haven Railroad tracked crane # CC13, that is sitting on a flat car. In the background you can see the westbound station building and platform area. Bob Hughes took this photo from his tower location.

New Haven Railroad GE EF-4 motor # 307 & another EF-4 lead an eastbound manifest freight train on an express track, while EMD FL-9's lead an eastbound stopped passenger train at a station platform in Stamford, Connecticut, 1968. At this time boxcars were still a major part of trains prior to much TOFC and Container traffic being transported by the railroads. Bob Hughes took this photo in the afternoon sunlight from tower SS38 where he worked. The trash seen in the area only got worse with the arrival of PC and the merger. You may note that the EF-4 motor 307 does not have a pantograph installed and it is being powered by the rear EF-4 through the roof top bus jumper.

New Haven Railroad EMD FL-9 locomotives in the snow lead an eastbound passenger train on an express track past a set of P-S lightweight stainless steel MUT's that are stopped on eastbound platform track at the station in Stamford, Connecticut, winter 1968. The snow appear to be about 7 inches deep, but there are piles around from dug up and plowed snow along with a few drifts. You can bet that the steam generators in the FL-9's are working at full capacity. On the siding to the left is another set of P-S lightweight stainless steel MUT's that have good sized drifts of snow in front of them. Bob Hughes of course was in his warm tower location when he photographed this scene.

New Haven Railroad GE EP-5 motor cab view as seen when departing westbound on the electrified main line from Union Station and the passenger car yard area at New Haven, Connecticut, 1968. Bob Hughes on another one of his cab rides was able to photograph this scene for us. To the right are tracks leading back to the motor storage area. On the left are passenger car storage tracks.

You can see the engineer in his cab window looking at the photographer. Also you can see a crewman, probably the fireman, standing on the main rod and leaning inside of the frame perhaps to oil some bearing locations or oil reservoirs.

New Haven Railroad extra excursion train of three RDC-1 coaches is seen at Provincetown, Massachusetts, early fall 1953. By this date the line to Provincetown was for freight only, so this excursion extra train made the trip for the railfans. The fall season has started and the first leaf colors are now showing up. The tracks seen at this location may make up a wye. It appears that the RDC-1 to the left, or the third coach back, has while flags indicating it was in the lead for the trip to Provincetown.

Penn Central former New Haven Railroad motor storage area near Union Station at New Haven, Connecticut, 1971. At this time all of the locomotives that are within this scene have been painted into the Penn Central paint scheme. There is a number of EP-5 motors and an EMD E-8 locomotive in this area. The employee's vehicles are parked here too.

New Haven Railroad original version of the Mack FCD Railbus Coach # 10, is seen operating on a branch line dueing the winter in the early 1950's. This is the first deliver version of the Mack FCD Railbus, and it was painted in a light green scheme with silver trim. This Railbus started to operate between Woods Hole and Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts on April 2, 1952, however; it was withdrawn form service in 1954, by the McGinnis administration. In 1954, the New Haven Railroad received nine new Mack FCD II Railbus Coaches # 11 - # 19, but only one was placed into service # 12, and it operated between Providence, Rhode Island and Worcester, Massachusetts, however; it was withdrawn from service in December 1956. These new Mack FCD II Railbus Coaches were painted in a scheme similar to the railroad's green coaches, plus they were larger, included operating controls at each end, could MU and they also had a toilet along with center side doors.

New York Ontario & Western EMD F3 locomotive # 502 & another, are seen leading a stopped National Railway Historical Society railfan excursion train that's stopped in the New Haven Railroad yard at Maybrook, New York, ca early 1950's. This yard stop probably also provided for a tour of the yard area, beside the excursion on the NYO&W route. In the background you can see some New Haven Railroad ALCO FA-1 & FB-1 locomotives. The society members are for the most part well dressed as compared to the clothes that may be wearing today on such a trip. The cars used for the excursion train were most likely borrowed and may belong to the New Haven Railroad. The EMD F3 locomotives are one of the earlier phases with the chicken wire situated over the side vents,
