The Flickr Margaretisland Image Generatr

Back in business with a new blue-hour series, I took from the Margaret-island in the heart of Budapest. The main idea was to capture the southern coasts, framed by the pillars of the Margaret-bridge, but I couldn't leave this scenery without some shots on the end of the session. Here you see some parts of Újpest, and it's truly amazing how this district improved in the last decade. So it'll deserve some more shots.

"The bronze shoes near the Danube River in Budapest are part of a poignant memorial called "Shoes on the Danube Bank." This installation commemorates the thousands of Jews who were executed along the riverbank by the fascist Arrow Cross militia during World War II. Victims were ordered to remove their shoes before being shot, and their bodies fell into the river.

The memorial, created in 2005 by film director Can Togay and sculptor Gyula Pauer, consists of 60 pairs of iron shoes representing the styles and sizes of men, women, and children, symbolizing the innocent lives lost. It serves as a powerful reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust and the importance of remembrance and reflection."

"Outside Budapest's renowned New York Café, you'll find a miniature bronze statue of a diver holding a key. This artwork, created by Hungarian-Ukrainian sculptor Mihály Kolodko, references a local legend involving Hungarian author Ferenc Molnár. It's said that Molnár threw the café's key into the Danube River to ensure it would remain open perpetually. Kolodko's sculpture whimsically depicts a diver who has retrieved this key from the river's depths."
