Rain drops on a spring tulip blossom.
Patty and I had a plan to visit a Bay Area garden where she often photographs spring flowers. According to the calendar, it was time for the tulips and other flowers to be at peak bloom. But as the day approached, it was clear that there was a chance of rain which, to say the least, can make this sort of photography challenging. We headed there early in the morning anyway, and it rained on us during the drive. The clouds were still thick when we arrived. Things were looking a bit uncertain.
But what had looked like deal-breaker weather actually turned out to be nearly perfect. The rain stopped, and we had intermittent sunshine and clouds — all kinds of interesting light. And while the rain ended, there was water everywhere, including on these colorful tulip blooms.

I started playing football for an organised team from the age of 8: Scawsby Sky Blues (1970-1978) Saltersgate Middle School (1970-1974) Adwick High School (1974-1978) After leaving school I didn't play again until asked one day if I'd turn out for ICI Fibres in 1982, the place where I worked. All this time I played up front. In 1983 a group of friends who were regulars at the Mallard pub decided to form a team to play in the Doncaster Sunday Morning League. Fortunately the new landlord, Richard, was an excellent centre back with quite a lot of experience and was keen to take part himself. His experience was invaluable as the rest of us were aged between 18, the majority and 22. Steve Nellis took on the manager's roll as he was a keen watcher of football but not a player. I then returned to play for ICI Fibres in 1987, this time as goalkeeper, and played there until I retired in 1993.
This photo was taken before the first game of the 1984/85 season. It's been over 35 years since I've seen most of these lads so apologise for not being able to remember too many surnames.
