Fort Gaines on the east end of Dauphin Island, Alabama. The fort was completed in 1821 and took part in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. During this battle, Admiral Farragut supposedly said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." The fort has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
