Reynold Brown (1917-1991), who created a quality poster for this second-rate b-movie, was one of the most acclaimed movie poster artists of the Fifties and Sixties, whose work colorfully encapsulated the nation's postwar social climate. His work is celebrated in the fascinating and entertaining TV documentary "The Man Who Drew Bug-Eyed Monsters" (1994).

Desert scientists (John Agar, Mora Corday, Leo G. Carroll) try to stop a fortified spider the size of a building. The critics at Rotten Tomatoes give this classic big bug film a fresh 93%, deservedly so. Director Jack Arnold who wrote the story was inspired by the Science Fiction Theatre TV episode, “No Food for Thought,” that Arnold also directed. The real spider in this movie is the same one that will be used in “The Incredible Shrinking Man” two years later. So, the spider does survive.
[Note: Jack Arnold's most notable films include It Came from Outer Space (1953), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Tarantula (1955) and The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957). His legacy endures.]
“Where there is one, there will be more…”
Many ages ago a demonic ruler sent forth a terrible plague as a sign of the apocalypse. Damned souls led the charge, mutated into horrible creatures resembling the insects that flooded the land and choked the sky.
Time has passed and all that remains is this preserved husk, kept by a curiosity collector. But something still stirs. A terrible buzzing and clawing comes at night. The locust calls to its brethren…
