VOLA COLOMBA - FLY DOVE

This year we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Trieste's definitive return to Italy.
After the Second World War, Trieste was the capital of the Free Territory of Trieste, remaining under Allied military administration for nine years, from 1945 to 1954.
A self-portrait of the photographer Adriano de Rota (1917-2017) appears on the poster announcing the exhibition at the Museum of Photography in Trieste. Many of his photos from that historical period are part of the exhibition and his archives are kept in the museum.
Why the dove symbol? Still with the open wound of World War II, advertising posters with a white glazed pastry dove appeared on the walls of buildings, marked by bombing.
It was like a message of peace announcing that the war phase was over and that we could start living peacefully and peacefully again.

Like every year for 100 years, on December 6th on the occasion of San Nicolo', Viale XX Settembre in Trieste is transformed into a large sweets and toy market. This year, for the centenary, a photographic exhibition organized by the Museum of Photography of Trieste recalls this tradition over the years. These photos of my father, taken in the 1950s and 1960s, are part of the exhibition.
