This was an unintended photo I took just before sunset last night on the Kilkeel Road at Spelga Dam.
My intention was to get a few excellent photos of the Northern Lights rising up high in the sky behind this building on the right which is a public toilet but it just wasnt to be. All those clouds disappeared and the sky cleared, just as the weather man predicted but no Aurora maybe another day!
In Northern Ireland, paramilitarism hasn't gone away, you know (this is an adaptation of a quote from Gerry Adams saying the IRA hadn't gone away, before IRA disarmament).
The effect in Northern Ireland is almost entirely where you live. Many working class areas are still controlled by paramilitaries, particularly on the Protestant side of the communtiy.
But you can be in the centre of Belfast - this photo was taken in Donegall Place, part of the premier shopping area close to the City Hall and everything seems enirely normal - except for an ad on a bus from the official government campaign Ending the Harm pointing out one of the dangers of paramilitarism.....
As to the effectiveness of such a campaign, it does draw attention to the issue but whether it has any effect is another matter.
