L'édifice émerge du fjord au bord duquel il est construit tel un iceberg. Son toit blanc en marbre de Carrare, culminant à 32 mètres, est incliné afin d'y accueillir les promeneurs. A l'intérieur, trois salles de 1350, 400 et 200 places. Une grande partie des 38500 mètres carrés du bâtiment étant située sous le niveau de la mer, sa construction a nécessité la pose de 12000 m2 de palplanches. Il repose sur 28 kilomètres de piliers dont certains à moins 60 mètres. Les travaux ont duré cinq ans et coûté 525 millions d'euros.
