The Holy Rosary & St. John Catholic Church

August 13, 2024 - Stop #4 on Columbus Landmark Foundation's Most Endangered Buildings Bus Tour. "The Holy Rosary & St. John Catholic Church was designed by the Columbus architecture firm David Reibel & Sons, which designed more than 40 school buildings. Built in 1898, the church is "designed in the High Gothic style with distinctive high towers, rich masonry detailing, and large stained-glass windows which were donated by the parishioners and bear their names," according to Landmarks.

The property, which the diocese plans to close for services, also includes a Rectory built in 1899, a Parish School built in 1905, and a Convent built in 1950." Previous description: www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2024/06/04/see-the-most...

The year 1910 is weirdly among us even yet. by Tim Kiser

The year 1910 is weirdly among us even yet.

The weird times haven't ended in Wichita Falls: Look at this, in brick red, light brown, and beige lol.

Here were the Holt Apartments, built in 1910 as the Kemp-Kell Building and declared to be the first skyscraper in Wichita Falls. It was remodeled as the Holt Hotel in 1926, at which time the top two floors were added. It was converted to apartments in 2005.

Now you know, but will you remember.

This was an urban landscape in a treed area of downtown Wichita Falls, during a winter duststorm.

I experienced a moment of good cheer as I passed among the shade beneath the trees, on foot.
