I hope nobody has ever stumbled drunkenly and/or shakey-leggedly down those concrete stairs, and that nobody ever will. There the Blue Ridge Mountains are.
In this article, Shakeys is spelled "Shakey's," and described as "a dive bar downtown that hosts live music, honky-tonk karaoke and drag performances," which closed at a different location in 2020 because of the pandemic, and reopened at this location in September 2022 — the same month I took this picture, holy shit!

In downtown Asheville, North Carolina, on September 28th, 2022, was Shakeys on the west side of North French Broad Avenue, north of Patton Avenue.

I made the picture tall and skinny so I could crop out distracting elements to the left and right!!
Here was the former San Diego Trust and Savings Bank Building, built in 1927-1928, nowadays a "Courtyard by Marriott" hotel. Per this federal document, we have sandstone from the Briar Hill quarry in Ohio, which, according to Roadside Geology of Ohio by Mark J. Camp, is known geologically as the Massillon member of the Pottsville formation, formed during the Middle Pennsylvanian subperiod, 306.5 to 311.7 million years ago; and a base of "Scotch Rose granite," which I call "Ol' Pink-'n'-Black."

In downtown San Diego, California, on July 2nd, 2024, was the Courtyard San Diego Downtown at the northwest corner of Broadway and 6th Avenue. The building is 99001565 on the National Register of Historic Places, designed by William Templeton Johnson.

After several months away getting a major overhaul from Black Saddle Bike Shop I was happy to be reunited with my Surly Midnight Special. New features of note include a new wheel set (WTB KOM Tough) and the addition of a SP 7 Series Dynamo Front Hub with front and rear lights by Supernova Lighting Systems Thanks to Simon Pokorny for putting in the long hours to make this project possible, it only seemed fitting to get out and hit 38 miles for my belated 37th birthday ride. A few pictures of the bike were a must, I even caught the start of the second Cap City Cyclists Madison Madison Monday ride of the year.
Sometimes a change of scenery is just what you need to see the world from a different perspective.
This week I got some real life straight to the soul revelation. When I'm in an uncomfortable situation, often I look to understand where the source of the difficulty is coming from. That can be quite easy to assess, but then I can easily obsess that if that source was removed or challenged or (if it's a person/s) made to feel as bad as I feel, then I will feel better. False. This rarely works. It becomes a battle of wills and if you are punching up it is incredibly difficult to effect change unless you have an army punching with you.
Instead assess where you are in the situation. What would it take to stop the source from impacting? You can control you. You can move you. You can take hold of your own power. Do not waste time punching energy into an immovable, unreasonable source. Do not seek reason from unreason, check yourself, find your path, your exit strategy and the journey to a source that will empower.

Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope your New Years is amazing. Stay safe out there!
