1952 Vegas Vic Fremont Street Las Vegas Snapshot

Vintage snapshot photo of Vegas Vic on the Pioneer Club on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. A little on the blurry side and I sharpened up the image somewhat, but I like that, in my opinion, this snapshot exemplifies the essence of a vacation/sight-seeing photo. This found photograph is from the private collection of an unknown and/or unknowing art collector. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!

The Pioneer Club - 1974 by Cloyne & District Historical Society

The Pioneer Club - 1974

'The Pioneer Club (the Original Pioneers) were formed to cast a kindly lamplight on those days. Although not demanding as much muscular effort as clearing the forest or blowing up parts of the Shield, the work that has gone into the preparation of 'The Oxen and the Axe' has been of considerable proportions.

Approached apprehensively, tackled tentatively, confidence grew until, with effort and patience resembling that of a team of oxen climbing the Eagle Hills, the thing was done. It required the better part of two years, about the time needed to produce a decent crop in 1860.' From the Preface of The Oxen and the Axe'.

Back row, left to right: Andrew Snider, Oscar Meeks, Harold Thompson, Irv Brown, Alf Wickware, Clarence Bishop
Middle row: Lizzie Meeks, Ada Levere, Dorothy Thompson, Ruby Bishop
Front row: Nadine Brumell, Elsie Snider, Gene Brown, Geraldine Wickware

Pioneer Club Member Jim Wallace - 1987 by Cloyne & District Historical Society

Pioneer Club Member Jim Wallace - 1987

Jim Wallace was taking his turn 'babysitting' the Cloyne Pioneer Museum in July 1987. He dropped in to chat with Pioneer Club member John Johnson.
Jim Wallace and Harold Thompson were the builders in charge of constructing the log museum. They told fellow members they had no experience with log building but 'just went ahead and built it'.
