Scout and Rosie Make a Christmas Wish

SCOUT: "Well Rosie, I discovered, after talking it over with Paddy and Orson, that I don't want to be a Christmas Angel, because Christmas Angels have to sit atop the Christmas Tree, no matter what."

ROSIE: "No matter what, Scout?"

SCOUT: "That's right, Rosie!" *Nods seriously.*

ROSIE: "Not even for a grumbly tummy, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Not even that, or even to visit the..." *Looks around and lowers voice.* "The Lady Louisa."

ROSIE: "But what if you need to go potty whilst you are up there."

SCOUT: "Well, mijn beste vriend, Peter, who is also your prins, offered to bring food and a potty up the tree for me."

ROSIE: "Mijn prins Peter is so lovely and kind and caring. I love him so much."

SCOUT: "Oh yes he is! He is the bestest vriend in the whole wide world, EVER! But anyway, I've decided not to be a Christmas Angel."

ROSIE: "Well if that is the case, I still don't quite understand why I have to wear a blue tutu and wear a blonde wig, Scout."

SCOUT: "Well, I thought we could be Christmas Faeries instead, and Christmas Faeries wear blue frocks and have blonde hair... like those two." *Points to two little pretty but tiny ladies carrying a jar almost as big as them.*

ROSIE: "Oh my goodness! Who are you?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1. "Hullo little Rosie. I am a Christmas Faerie,"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "And so am I, little Rosie."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "We are sisters, you see." *Giggles.*

ROSIE: "Goodness! How did you know my name, Christmas Faeries?"

SCOUT: "You will soon learn, Rosie, that Christmas Faeries know everything."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "Little Scout is right, sweet little Rosie. We have a list given to us by Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear of all the good boys, girls and bears around the world and we flit from Christmas tree to Christmas tree to see whether they really are good. So we do know everything."

ROSIE: "How do you know all this, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Oh, the Christmas Faeries and I met last Christmas, didn't we Christmas Faeries?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1. and 2.: *Nod enthusiastically.*

ROSIE: "Oh! Well, I have been very good, Christmas Faeries! We all have: Scout, Paddy, Cousin Paddington, Bogart, Jago, Daisy-Maud, Orson, Danny Boy, Algie and even Freddy, Duckie and Prince Maurice!"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "We know, little Rosie. In fact, you have tried so hard to be good this year..."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "That we have have come to grant you and little Scout wish."

SCOUT: "A wish? For us, Christmas Faeries?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2. "That is why we have this wishes jar." *Points to the jar full of sparkling blue faerie dust.*

CHRSTMAS FAERIE 1.: "Yes, little Scout. What do you and Rosie wish for most in your heart?"

SCOUT: "Oh Christmas Faeries, I would so like to play with mijn beste vriend Peter..."

ROSIE: "Oh yes! He is also mijn prins and I would love to play with him and give him ten thousand soft snuffly kisses under the Christmas Tree!"

SCOUT: "You know Peter, don't you Christmas Faeries? He lives with Mummy Marian in Holland."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "Yes, we know Peter, little Scout. Faerie Mum who lives in Mummy Marian's garden tells us all about him and Oleg."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "Peter has been very good this year too."

SCOUT: "Well, I'd like for Rosie and I to be able to play with him."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "Oh that is easily granted, little Scout and little Rosie."

SCOUT: "But wait!" *Holds up paw. "But what about Paddy? Paddy is beste vriends with Oleg. It would be unfair of Rosie and I to wish to play with Peter, if Paddy can't play with Oleg."

ROSIE: "Oh that's right, Scout! Would Paddy be able to come and play too, Christmas Faeries? I know it would make him soooo happy! Can he come too, please, Christmas Faeries?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: *Looks at Christmas Faerie 2., who nods.* "Yes, we can grant that wishes. However our magic only lasts until midnight."

SCOUT: "Oh, like the Faerie Godmother in Cinderella, you mean?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1: "Yes little Scout. As you can see, there is only so much faerie dust in the wishes jar, and yet at Christmas time more people and bears make wishes than any other time of year. The magical faerie dust can only go so far, and last for so long. Now, just..."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2: " Now, close your eyes little Scout and Rosie and say your wish out loud."

SCOUT and ROSIE: "We wish with all our hearts that we can play with Peter, beste vriend of Scout and prins of Rosie, and that Paddy can come along too, so he and Oleg can play together too!."

CHRISTMAS FAERIES: *Wave pretty silver wands.*

My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy (www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter loves Rosie and Rosie loves Peter, so they have become prince and princess to one another.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Rosie is Scout's cousin, because like Scout, she is a free trade knitted bear from Africa. She was made in Kenya by one of the Kenana Knitters, Martha Wanjira. She is made from home spun and dyed wool. She was a gift to me from two very dear friends, includng the one who gave Scout to Paddy.

PADDY: *Sighs heavily and daydreams.*

LITTLE VOICE: "What's wrong Paddy?"

PADDY: *Looks up in surprise.* "Hullo? Hullo, who is there, please?"

LITTLE VOICE: "I'm here Paddy: next to the sugar bowl."

PADDY: *Looks and sees a pretty but tiny lady.* "Goodness! Who are you?"

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "We know. Little Scout has been very good, and so have you."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "You seem sad, Paddy. Is something wrong?"

PADDY: "Well, not wrong exactly. I was just thinking about mijn beste vriend, Oleg. He lives with Mummy Marian in Holland. I was just thinking how much sweeter these shortbreads would be, and how much nicer my English Breakfast tea would be if Oleg were here. We love chatting you see."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 2.: "Well, you have been so good this year..."

CHRISTMAS FAERIE 1.: "That we have have come to grant you a wish."

PADDY: "A wish? For me, Christmas faeries?"

CHRSTMAS FAERIE 1.: "Yes, Paddy. What do you wish for most in your heart?"

This beautiful nursery tea set is made by the Shell China company in the 1920s. It features six cups, saucers and plates (not all the set is being used today) as well as a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl, all gilt and featuring different nursery rhymes including: "The Queen of Hearts", "Ride a Cock-Horse to Banbury Cross", " Jack and Jill", "There was a Little Man who had a Little Gun", "Goosey-Goosey Gander" and "To Market to Market to Buy a Fat Pig" amongst others. The set was a gift to me from a close friend. There are also doll (bear) sized tea spoons which are sterling silver salt spoons, and the spoon in the "Goosey-Goosey Gander" sugar bowl is an Eighteenth Century sterling silver mustard spoon.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

SCOUT: "I knew Daddy was wrong! Presents do grow under Christmas trees! Look at all these pretty presents. I wonder if any of them are yours or mine, Dolly! Let's have a look shall we." *Begins looking through Christmas presents beneath the Christmas tree.

LITTLE VOICE: "What are you doing there, little Scout?"

SCOUT: *Looks up but doesn't see anyone, so begins fossicking through presents again.* "No, that one isn't for us Dolly. What about this one."

LITTLE VOICE: "Scout. What are you doing?"

SCOUT: *Looks up but still sees no-one.* "Hullo. Hullo, who is there, please?"

LITTLE VOICE: "I'm here Scout: on top of the white present with the red bow."

SCOUT: *Looks and sees a pretty but tiny lady.* "Goodness! Who are you?"

The Spring Faeries Gather Blooms by raaen99

The Spring Faeries Gather Blooms

The Spring Faeries busy themselves about the countryside, skipping merrily as they wake the flowers and their animal friends after the long and cold winter. Once the flowers are awake, they gather a select few of the choicest first flush of blooms to decorate their castle with.

This year the Flickr Friends Melbourne Group have decided to have a monthly challenge which is submitted on the 5th of every month. This month’s theme is “fantastic plastic”, which was chosen by me.
Plastic may not always be a good thing, but when it is made into toys like Playmobil that provide endless fun and imagination for children (both young and old ones), then I think it can be fantastic. I have introduced my godsons to Playmobil, and even though one is in his teens and the other two just shy of it, they still enjoy getting the Playmobil out when I come over and they create magical kingdoms and we have a ball together as we play for several hours at least!

Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced. I wanted to continue my series of faerie Playmobil tableaux, following on from the Yellow, Blue, Pink, Rainbow, Winter and Forest Faeries who have appeared in previous challenges.

Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.

The Green Faerie Greets her Friends the Greenfinches

In the middle of the green enchanted forest, the Green Faerie greets her wonderful friends the greenfinches who always help her find the greenest and sweetest succulent berries for her to enjoy for her breakfast.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 28th of August is “green animals”. Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced. Thus, when the theme was announced, I knew I immediately wanted to photograph my collection of pretty green Playmobil birds. I am told that the darker green ones are much rarer than the lighter green ones and are therefore more valuable! I personally don’t mind. I love both varieties with their cute little faces and profiles. I do hope that you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile.

The Rainbow Faerie Brings Colour to World by raaen99

The Rainbow Faerie Brings Colour to World

The Rainbow Faerie has slid down to earth on her magical rainbow, and wherever she walks, she bestows her an array of colours upon the animals and flowers. All she needs to do is raise her multicoloured wand, and the roses will be a more dazzling red, canaries more vibrantly yellow and the grass more brilliantly green.

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” for the 23rd of July is “multicolour”. As soon as I read the theme, I thought of my Playmobil Rainbow Faerie who has a multicoloured gown and a multicoloured wand. I have set her up alone against the backdrop of her rainbow as I felt that she was enough to represent the theme this week. Thus, I came up with this scene, which I hope will make you smile.

The Orange Faerie’s Feeds Her Marmalade Cat by raaen99

The Orange Faerie’s Feeds Her Marmalade Cat

The Orange Faerie loves animals: those in the forest, and the birds and butterflies who visit her garden. However, she loves her pet marmalade cat the most. His coat is often commented on by visitors to the Orange Faerie’s castle, and it is remarked that his coat is so soft and shiny. When asked how it is that she manages it, the Orange Faerie laughs and replies, “Oh it’s easy! I feed him on a strict diet of orange marmalade of course!”

This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a monthly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme, or a selection of themes to choose from or combine is provided on the 5th of every month, and the image is to be posted on the 5th of the following month.

The themes for February are “water”, “all creatures great and small” and “the colour orange”.

This photo encompasses two of themes, “the colour orange” and “all creatures great and small” using my beloved Playmobil collection. This also carries on the “Snap Happy” theme of Playmobil faeries for colour challenges.

The Orange Faerie’s Feast

The Orange Faerie has invited her friend the Orange Princess for luncheon at her castle by the sea. With a wave of her wand, the Orange faerie produces a feast fit for a princess on the empty table before them: orange lobsters with orange carrots followed by orange pineapples and of course fresh oranges. Best of all there is orange flavoured ice cream to finish with. All this is accompanied by freshy squeezed orange juice to drink. What a fine repast produced by the kind Orange Faerie! Bon appétit!

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” is “orange”. Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced. I thought this tableaux featuring a range of orange items really suited the theme. I hope you think so too!

A Pink Flower Faerie Amid the Climbing Roses

The Pink Flower Faerie is doing her best to rearrange the roses in her arbour. She cannot abide untidy and unruly blooms in her rose garden, but some are stubborn and recalcitrant, especially when they are still determined little buds. If anyone can neaten the blooms up and bring them to heel, it is her!

This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a weekly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each week, and the image is to be posted on the Monday of the week.

The Red Faerie Goes Red Mushrooming

The Red Faerie knows where to find the very best magical red mushrooms and toadstools in the forest with the assistance of the Red Cardinals and Red Robbins in the trees and her red eyed grey wolf, whose nose can sniff them out from a mile away.

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday!” is “mushrooms”.

I thought my Playmobil fungi were a suitable choice.

The Spring Faeries Greets her Furred and Feathered Friends

Springtime is the busiest time of the year from the Spring Faeries as they busy themselves about the countryside, waking their animal friends after the long and cold winter. The pink Spring Faerie strokes the neck of a new baby faun, admires the fox’s two new cubs and the rabbits’ babies. She also greets a newly fledged white dove who coos contentedly on her outstretched arm. All her other animal friends gather about to say hullo including the jack rabbits, the squirrels, the songbirds and a deer.
