I got an 1876! It's a church unfortunately.

A huge Great Depression was raging in 1876 but the Baptists in Racine had plenty of money I guess.

Rare or unique: A building from 1916 has a 1962 datestone affixed to it. This is in Racine, Wisconsin.

Yes the building was erected 1915-1916 and was a YMCA, taken over by the Racine Bible Church in the early 1960s.

It having been a YMCA, I assume the building was a longtime centre of gay lovemaking in Racine, and I assume the new datestone was part of the church's effort to dissociate itself from that. I further assume gay lovemaking continued to occur in the building after the church took it over.

I sarcastically compliment the "beautiful design, layout, and placement" of the 1989 datestone at the Racine Public Library.

"It's a tragedy for me to see the dream is over, this one's for the children, baby I love your way/freebird medley, just a small town dude with a big city attitude, heaven isn't too far away, dirty cash I want you, batdancing, been around the world and i-yi-yi, no money man could win my love, is this burning an eternal flame, your lips are venomous poison, roxette, soldier of love by donny osmond, walk on water by eddie money, tenderoni by bobby brown, you've been hit by you've been struck by a dude's genitals, ricky was a young boy he had a heart of stone, michael damian sings david essex, now you're feelin really fine 'cause the girl is stacked," etc etc, I babble, expressionless and dead-eyed.

They reside in Racine, Wisconsin, in a three-story apartment building from 1905. by Tim Kiser

They reside in Racine, Wisconsin, in a three-story apartment building from 1905.

I hope nothing stomach-turningly awful has ever happened in the building, but with so many people moving through over so many decades, I suppose it's unrealistic to hope that.

My heart is warmed in a uniquely individual way by each of the individual "Celebrate Racine" lamppost banners hung on lampposts all around downtown: The pleasure of seeing one "Celebrate Racine" banner is special unto itself, and is distinct from the pleasure of seeing any other "Celebrate Racine" banner on any other lamppost.

Ah yes the "La Salle Block" with its 1912 datestone at the top and its severely shrunken windows. by Tim Kiser

Ah yes the "La Salle Block" with its 1912 datestone at the top and its severely shrunken windows.

"Gaby & Giselle botas y botines, western wear" reads the sign behind the flowering tree. The sign frame with the colorful streamers is empty.

Whose red Dodge Caravan is that!, from model years 2001-2007.

United in blue siding: Two buildings!, from 1908 (left) and 1907 (right).

Also united in blue siding: two more buildings!, both from 1890, which I didn't have room for in my picture, except for a little at the right.

Siding-covered oriel windows are funny-looking and therefore good.

The tree demonstrates a typical example of a prunejob.

Look at the three bronze panels, each with a design of concentric circles impressed upon it. Keep looking, don't look away.

Ugh the building was the site of a Paul Ryan "constituent services center." Well I'm a consituent and I need for Speaker Ryan to kiss me on my hind end!

If you love glazed pink terracotta from 1928 then Kaiser's ought to have you panting and hooting. by Tim Kiser

If you love glazed pink terracotta from 1928 then Kaiser's ought to have you panting and hooting.

Would you look at the volutes at the tops of those pilasters. Would you look at the stylized sunrises on those polychrome panels. Did you ever see a cornice have such shallow dentils, I doubt you did.

Upstairs-downstairs remodeling projects: New surfaces!, of bricks and funny wooden siding. by Tim Kiser

Upstairs-downstairs remodeling projects: New surfaces!, of bricks and funny wooden siding.

"Funny buildings like these are among the things people like best about Wisconsin," I declared in a speech at the kickoff event of my campaign for a seat on the Racine Common Council.

The building (1014 State St, formerly known as 1014-1016 State St) is said here to be from 1910 but this fire insurance map from 1908 appears to show it. It's not shown on the 1894 map.

I looked at Racine city directories at ancestrylibrary.com, and found that the 1902 edition was the first to show a business at this address ("Jensen Bros. dry goods," located here through at least 1920, which was the last edition I looked at). Therefore I estimate that the original building, underneath the bricks and wood, is from circa 1901-1902.
