A footpath known as The Knightley Way (named after the local historical landowners) leaves Badby village opposite the church and runs just inside the western edge of the woods and exits them here (although the exit is easy to miss it is way-marked). After the claustrophobic, rather dense woodland, the sudden arrival onto a smooth green hill-top studded with fine trees and with wonderful far ranging views is a delight. In the distance, just left of the central tree the tower of Charwelton Church can just be seen; a lovely medieval church, now isolated, its original village long gone.
A very lovely mornings walk in charming, rolling and incredibly quiet countryside; a lift to Badby from Banbury (a bit of a cheat, I'd usually catch the bus) then a five mile walk to Charwelton village and the bus back before the clouds moved in.
Not a particularly great photograph, but my first real walk of the year now that the floods are beginning to recede, and wow, how I enjoyed it!
Out just after 8am on a ramble of about 41/2 miles taking in the hamlet of North Newington, Fulling Mill Farm and Broughton Castle. Really just a way of breaking in some new walking boots which are giving me gyp and not really expecting much for the camera, but I got some charming shots of sheep at the castle... lots of them! Be warned!
This is the view as I crest the first hill, the edge of North Newington on the right and the spire of Broughton church just visible between the twigs on the left.
