After leaving the peaceful Kuhasalo Monastery Memorial, our walk continues along the Kuhasalo Nature Trail (Kuhasalon luontopolku). This well-maintained trail offers a scenic loop through the island of Kuhasalo, known for its beautiful birch forests and views of the surrounding lakes.
The trail leads toward Hiekkalahti, a tranquil bay area on the shore of Lake Pyhäselkä. In winter, the frozen paths add a layer of silence and serenity, creating a magical atmosphere. The area is popular year-round for walking and birdwatching. Kuhasalo itself is an important cultural and natural heritage site of Joensuu, offering a mix of history, spiritual landmarks, and Finnish nature.
Jätettyämme taakse Kuhasalon luostarin muistomerkin, kävely jatkuu Kuhasalon luontopolulla. Tämä hyvin hoidettu reitti kiertää Kuhasalon saarta, joka tunnetaan kauniista koivumetsistään ja upeista järvimaisemistaan.
Polku vie kohti Hiekkalahtea, joka on rauhallinen lahtialue Pyhäselän rannalla. Talvella jäätyneet polut ja luminen maisema luovat erityisen hiljaisen ja seesteisen tunnelman.
