The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 11th of January is "anything with A", where a picture of something (person, animal, plant, object) that begins with the letter A is required. Thus, I have opted for some beautiful Jonathan apples, which I photographed in the Nightingale Orchard a couple of years ago, when I visited the town of Wandilligong in provincial Victoria. These beautiful red apples were just too good to pass up on! I hope you like my choice of the theme for this week, and that it makes you smile!
Jonathan is a medium-sized sweet apple, with a touch of acid and a tough but smooth skin, good for eating fresh and for cooking.
The Nightingale family has been growing crisp, juicy apples in the Wandiligong Valley and alpine surrounds for over 60 years. Four generations on, the Nightingale family have five orchards: two at Wandiligong located 5 kilometres from Bright, one in the Buckland Valley just below Mount Buffalo, one at Stanley, and one in Batlow in southern New South Wales.

Kinglake, Victoria
Kinglake Ranges Rotary which meets in the beautiful Kinglake area north of Melbourne held its annual Lift the Lid Walk for Mental and Physical Health this morning.
These walks which are held in various parts of Australia seek to highlight the importance of mental and physical health via a walk and talk in the community.
They are also an opportunity to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health which supports medical research and health scholars.
Mental health has been very much a front of mind issue for Kinglake Ranges Rotary which grew out of the many community responses in a deeply traumatised community after the horrific 2009 Black Saturday bushfires which saw a great deal of destruction and the sad loss of many lives.
Road trips are the best!

Elmore, Victoria
Athenaeum Hall
"Built in 1885 for £800, and opened in 1886, the Athenaeum Hall was designed by W.C. Vahland and built by Mr G. Galbraith. Throughout its life, it served as a Hall for public entertainment, Church services by The Church of England and Presbyterian Church, Library, Library Club Rooms, Billiard Room with four tables from 1924-1965 and it was used as the Scout Hall room from 1970 to 1980. As the building became unused and vacant in 1982, it was vandalised and under threat of demolition, so a small committee of nine members was formed and called “The Save The Athenaeum Hall Committee,” to restore the hall to its original glory. It re-opened in 2002." www.elmorevictoria.com.au/walking-tour
