RN Supermarine Walrus I L2301 - Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, Somerset - England

The Walrus, a maritime patrol and spotting aircraft with a single 'pusher' propeller, was originally known as the Supermarine Seagull V, a development of the original Seagull of the early 1920s.

A Seagull V became the first piloted aircraft to be launched by catapult.

The first Walrus was flown in 1933. 740 were built of all variants.

This example was built in 1939.

RN De Havilland Sea Vampire LZ551G - Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, Somerset - England

The Sea Vampire was a navalised Vampire, suitable for operation on aircraft carriers. This involved fitting an arrestor hook, bigger air brakes and flaps, and stronger construction.

At total of 3,268 Vampires of all types were produced.

This example, the modified 3rd prototype Vampire LZ551/G, became the first pure jet aircraft to take off and land on an aircraft carrier in December 1945.
