Deze foto is gemaakt in IJmuiden.
Het sluizencomplex IJmuiden bestaat uit een aantal
schutsluizen en een spui- en gemaalcomplex.
De sluisdeur met een afmeting van 72 m lang, 24 m hoog en 11 m breed is drijvend naar IJmuiden gesleept.
De gesloten constructie van de deur is te vergelijken met een schip.
De deuren hebben luchtkamers waardoor ze ondanks hun gewicht van 3000 ton blijven drijven.
Ballasttanks gevuld met water zorgden voor de stabiliteit.

The IJmuiden lock complex consists of a number of
locks and a sluice and pumping station complex.
The lock gate, measuring 72 m long, 24 m high and 11 m wide, was towed to IJmuiden while floating.
The closed construction of the door can be compared to a ship.
The doors have air chambers that keep them afloat despite their weight of 3000 tons.
Ballast tanks filled with water provided stability.
