2024 - Buenos Aires - 19 of - Congreso de la Nación Argentina - La Quadriga

One of several sculptures that adorn the Congreso de la Nación Argentina building.

La Quadriga is a work 8 meters high weighing 20 tons, cast in bronze and executed by the Venetian sculptor Víctor de Pol.

The chariot pulled by four horses in different postures, represents the Triumphant Republic.

The winged Victory that leads it symbolizes the will of the country, advancing liberated.

In her left hand she holds the reins, representing democracy run by the people and in her right a laurel branch.

The sculptural group projects one meter forward from the square base, in the direction of the Río de la Plata.

Well, perhaps not. A moment captured on London’s South Bank. The sculpture, by Ian Walters, was commissioned by the Greater London Council and unveiled in 1985 by Oliver Tambo, president of the African National Congress.
